On My Television Screen

Last night's My Life on the D-List must have been the funniest episode of the series to date. At one point I seriously thought I might pee my pants laughing. This week's celebrity guest was FoodNetwork star Paula Deen, who invited Kathy to spend the night in her Georgian home. During the precedings we were gifted with Kathy accidently wacking Paula in the face with a switch, Paula's dogs pooping and puking all over her house, jokes about Tom's nervous disorder (pulling out his eyebrows and lashes), a drag queen named Paul A. Deen, and Paul Deen uttering the phrase "circle jerk." Hands down, though, the best part was Paula's gay assistant, starting off as this quiet guy in the background, before getting drunk at dinner and turning into an over-the-top Paul Lynde like character. "This is gonna end tragic." After watching the episode (twice in a row, btw) I wish someone would give Paula Deen a reality series of her own.

Also of note, this weekend's episode of True Blood continued a good start to the second season. So far, Michelle Forbes is easily the stand out as Maryann, but Alexander Skarsgard's Eric has become an equally enjoyable character. Thank god they cut his hair; the short, slicked-back look is much sexier on him, and appearing in an ugly tracksuit was a hilarious bonus. The episode also featured a good deal of male shirtlessness, with Bill, Jason, Eggs and Lafayette all bearing their chests. This is by far the gayest show on television.

Guild Noms: Costume Designers

The Costume Designers Guild handed out their noms earlier today, and somehow Slumdog Millionaire got a nomination. Really? Okay, yes i get it! You love the movie, but just because you love a film, does not mean it deserves to be nominated in every category. At this rate, come nomination morning, it'll rack up 14 nods. Well, not really; I don't see how it could get more than nine. The Academy will probably ignore it in the Costume and Art Direction categories. Anyway...... Australia is snubbed again. It's like the plague, no one wants to go near it. Even though Australia was a critical and box-office disappointment, I thought it would manage to pick up some nods. Memoirs of a Geisha anyone? I still believe it will show up somewhere at the Oscars - Cinematography, Costume, and Art Direction are all possible. The Golden Compass, was in the same place last year, and received two nominations, going on to win Best Visual Effects. So for the crew of Australia, keep hope alive. I also think the Academy will go for The Other Boleyn Girl, even though the CDG didn't. The Academy loves them some Sandy Powell, and really, who doesn't? Velvet Goldmine for life! Oh, and one last comment - How is Iron Man a Contemporary film, but The Dark Knight a Fantasy film? Eh.......?

Nominations:

Contemporary:
Iron Man - Laura Jean Shannon & Rebecca Bentjen
Mamma Mia! - Ann Roth
Sex and the City - Patricia Field
Slumdog Millionaire - Suttirat Larlarb
The Wrestler - Amy Westcott

Period:
Changeling - Deborah Hopper
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Jaqueline West
The Duchess - Michael O'Connor
Milk - Danny Glicker
Revolutionary Road - Albert Wolsky

Fantasy:
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - Isis Mussenden
The Dark Knight - Lindy Hemming
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - Sanja Milkovic Hays

Is Batista Scary or Sexy?

Seriously. If I were to ever meet him in person, I don't know if I'd want to run away from him or jump in his arms. Maybe he's just scary sexy! If you've ever caught a glimpse of pro-wrestling on TV, you have to admit it's kind of gay, what with all the large muscley men wearing only little bikini briefs and tossing each other about. You have to wonder if a good chunk of its fanbase is a bunch of closet-cases fantasizing about Randy Orton or The Rock pile-driving them. I'm just saying... kinda gay.

Wanda Sykes Comes Out

OMG blog
Wanda Sykes came out of the closet while at a protest against Prop 8. Being perfectly honest, at no point did I ever think she was a lesbian, and I'm usually good at this. I mean I could tell Ellen and Rosie and Neil Partick Harris were all gay before they ever came out. There's also those that haven't come out yet, but I can definitely tell are gay, like Queen Latifah, Kevin Spacey, and Secretary of State Condie Rice. When La Lohan started palling around with a girlfriend and everyone else started freaking out about it, I really wasn't surprised, since I kind of thought she was. So what am I saying? Um, I'm surprised I didn't suspect it. But anyway, congratulations to Wanda for coming out. I kind of love her more for doing so and for protesting the ridiculousness that is Prop 8.

Out Magazine's Out 100: No Rachel Maddow on the Cover?

Out Magazine's current issue features their 14th annual Out 100 List, essentiallly a listing of 100 gay or gay-friendly personalities in pop culture, the arts, and politics who helped shape the year. Now I got a problem with the cover. It features out director Gus Van Sant, out stage actor and hottie Cheyenne Jackson, out singer Sam Sparro, and... Kate Perry? Why is Kate Perry on the cover? Sure she sung a hit song about kissing another girl, but she's not gay. The song isn't even gay! It's a flirtatious, quasi-bi-curious, but not really, song in which the girl still worries what her boyfriend thinks. I mean come on! They couldn't get a lesbian to appear on the cover? How about Portia de Rossi or Ellen DeGeneres, who just got married to each other this past year, or how about Rachel Maddow, who's new talk/news show on MSNBC became an instant hit when it debuted? Maddow would have looked just as dapper in a suit as Gus, Cheyenne and Sam do. She would have fit right in. Come on! Anyway here's pics of two of those featured in the list, cover-stud Cheyenne Jackson and tv/stage actor John Barrowman, since you know they're both hot.

I think it should be my new catch phrase.

Screw You ABC and Grey's Anatomy!

Last night was Brooke Smith's final episode of Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Erica Hahn, as she was essentially fired from the show after pressure from the network. Damn you ABC! The burgeoning romance between Smith's character, Hahn, and Sara Ramirez's Dr. Callie Torres, was the best part of the show, but apparently the network wasn't digging it and forced creator/producer Shonda Rhimes to write her off the show. Now here's what really ticks me off. The network says that the character wasn't written off because she was a lesbian, but because they didn't think the relationship between Hahn and Callie could not be sustained. B.S. Later this month Melissa George will join the cast as a new intern, and former friend of Meredith Grey, who is bisexual. Huh. So they got rid of the realistic lesbian character to replace her with a man's fantasy version of a bisexual woman. The network is fine with women making out with each other, just as long they are highly attractive and wind up back with men in the end. Melissa George's character better be hooking up with Callie, and not just flirt with her and then go around sleeping with every guy in the cast. Screw you ABC. Letting Brooke Smith go after that wonderfully acted scene were she realizes she's a lesbian. Damn it, there was so much potential there! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
