Last night I watched the film In Bruges on DVD, and because of that, today's edition of Sunday Blessings is devoted to Colin Farrell. It's a great film, and I'm happy Farrell won the Golden Globe, as he gives a great performance, definitely his best to date. His speech at the Globes was also made him come off so much more adorable, as he got all choked up. You sort of have to feel bad for the guy and his career. He made a big splash in 2000, with his first film Tigerland, even winning the Boston Film Critics Best Actor prize for it, but followed it up with a series of crappy Hollywood films, although he was always good in them. Farrell was the sole bright spot in the otherwise craptacular Daredevil (shudders). 2004 was to be his big breakthrough as a Hollywood leading man, with Oliver Stone's Alexander. The film turned out to be a big unwieldy mess, it bombed, and somehow Farrell took most of the blame, instead of the guy who actually made the film, Stone. As a result he became something of a joke, more associated with his public antics and hook-ups. Farrell never seemed to get the credit he deserved as an actor, particularly for The New World and Intermission, nor has he recieved the credit he deserved as a sex symbol. His sex appeal was often relegated to the TigerBeat variety, as opposed to the leading man variety, like a Daniel Craig or Jude Law. It's unfortunate, because the man is undeniably hot. Just saying. Anyway, I can't wait to see what he does with The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, in which he replaced the late Heath Ledger, along with Jude Law and Johnny Depp. If anyone could replace Ledger, it's the combination of that trio. Praise Jesus.
